Top 5 Denim Care Tips That Keep Any Pair Looking New

blog post 06

Good denim gets better with age — but only if you look after it. Five simple habits will keep the colour rich, the fit true and the fabric strong, wash after wash.

1. Wash Less, Wash Cold

Denim does not need washing after every wear. Spot-clean small marks and air the pair between wears, then wash on a cold, gentle cycle when it genuinely needs it. Heat is the enemy: hot water fades indigo and shrinks cotton.

“Denim is like vitamins to a wardrobe — treat it well and it lasts for years, not months.”

2. Always Turn It Inside Out

Turning jeans inside out protects the outer surface from friction in the drum, which is what causes that pale, worn look on thighs and hems. Close the zip and button first so the hardware cannot snag the fabric.

3. Skip the Dryer

Tumble drying is the fastest way to shrink a pair and break down stretch fibres. Hang your jeans by the waistband in the shade and let them dry naturally. If they feel stiff afterwards, a few minutes of wear softens them straight back up.

4. Treat Stains Straight Away

Blot, never rub. A little cold water and a drop of gentle detergent on the spot will lift most marks within a few minutes. Leave it longer and the stain sets into the cotton, where no amount of washing will shift it.

5. Fold, Don’t Hang

Hanging jeans by the belt loops stretches the waistband out of shape over time. Fold them in half at the knee and store them flat on a shelf — your waistband will hold its fit far longer. For the palest washes, keep them out of direct sunlight so they stay bright rather than yellowing.

Five habits, minutes a week — and a pair of jeans that looks new for years.
